Our team leader, Nic, was born in Skagit Valley’s beautiful Mount Vernon. An incredible athlete in high school Nic was not only a starting member of Mac Fraser’s All-State basketball team multiple years but a 4-year varsity baseball, All-State, player. Nic chose to pursue baseball and played for two years at Big Bend Community College before transferring to Saint Martin’s University. Nic graduated from Saint Martin’s with his Bachelor’s degree in Community Services. It was then a natural progression to work for the City of Olympia, helping to run their youth and teen recreational programs. It was also in Olympia that Nic met his future bride, Emily (thank you Parks and Rec!) It wasn’t until Nic had spent about a decade working for different municipalities that he decided that it was time for a career change. Nic jumped into his real estate career right after the 2008 Financial Crisis. What a time to learn the industry! Starting with cold calls, door knocking, Craigslist ads, and anything else he could do to drum up business, Nic quickly became the leading sales agent at FairPlay Realty. Nic then went on to create Commencement Bay Brokers Estate. In the middle of all the things, Emily and Nic welcomed four kids: Everly (now 10), Elowyn (7) and surprise twins, Josephine, and Jonathan (5). Commencement Bay Brokers is now one of the most successful independent, boutique real estate firms in the state. Nic’s long term focus has been on building relationships in the community and changing people’s lives through real estate. Nic loves what he does and is passionate about the City of Tacoma and its potential. When Nic isn’t selling houses, he can be found front row at the Tacoma Rainiers, coaching his daughter Everly’s softball team, pretending to be a soccer-parent (that’s Emily’s thing, ha!), working with the Saint Martin’s National Alumni board, raising money for TDRF, or keeping his fingers crossed that the Seattle Mariners will finally make a play-off season appearance!
